About the Sea to Sound: Happening Every August in Port Angeles, Washington
Sea to Sound Race
Each year, many people with varying physical abilities come out to participate in the trail ride with family and friends and leave with clearer thoughts, renewed energy, and new connections. In fact, what makes Sea to Sound so special is the way that it combines the outdoors with community. To ensure that every rider feels supported, aid stations, wheelchair mechanics, shuttles, lunch and dinner, and much more are available to riders.
About Ian Mackay
About Ian Mackay from Ian's Ride
Ian Mackay is no stranger to the trails of Washington State. In 2016, Ian tested his grit and embarked on a 335-mile trek in his Invacare TDX SP2 power wheelchair. That journey has not only inspired many to join him but also sparked the inception of Ian’s Ride, a non-profit whose mission is to promote outdoor accessibility, further the availability of accessible technology, and encourage support services for those with mobility impairment.

First Time Sea to Sound Rider Tips
First Time Rider Tips
First time rider? Not a problem! Here are Ian’s tips for your first Sea to Sound ride:
1. Wrap Your Head Around the Logistics. Many first-time riders are surprised to learn that they will actually begin at the finish line at the beginning of each day. You will then be transported to the starting point of each ride, and you will roll your way back to your vehicle that is waiting at the finish line.
2. Don’t expect to go fast. The Sea to Sound crew travels at an average speed of five mph. Remember to pace yourself and enjoy the views along the way.
3. Believe us, we’ve got you covered! Snacks, lunch, and drink stations are available every five miles and at lunchtime. Event team members can push or pull you if needed. Wheelchair mechanics are also on standby and can help with breakdowns, and EMTs will be available to help with the unexpected. If you need a break, there are free rides to the next stop, or all the way to the finish line. We’re a team and we are on this journey together, so if you need something, just ask!
4. Be prepared to meet new friends. At Sea to Sound, we are proud to welcome people from diverse backgrounds. We are all coming together to create a community built on respect and support. After spending three days on the trail, chances are you’ll leave with more than just memories—you’ll leave with new connections!
