Day Tripping from Port Angeles
This is our shortlist of some of our favorite — and easy — day trips from Port Angeles, Washington.
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Bring your passport! Explore Victoria B.C. Canada, Vancouver Island’s largest city and capital. Victoria has been mentioned as one of the top 10 islands in the world by Travel+Leisure. Walk, bike or drive on board the Coho Ferry for a scenic ferry crossing into one of Canada’s most charming cities. Rent bikes near the ferry terminal to explore the Galloping Goose bike trail system, or cruise to Craigdarroch Castle. Walk to shops and restaurants from the ferry. Find time for an authentic British high tea experience at the Empress Hotel, or hop aboard the Malahat Sky Walk Shuttle from downtown Victoria to see one of Victoria’s most unique attractions.
Waterfall Trail
Drive Washington’s famous Olympic Peninsula loop to explore 22 waterfalls along the waterfall trail.
Olympic Culinary Loop
The Olympic Peninsula Culinary Loop includes numerous stops and points of interest in Port Angeles and beyond. This self-guided tour is made for self-declared foodies as well as for those who may just prefer a delicious farm-to-table treat now and again.
Hoh Rainforest
Mositure-laden air from the Pacific brings an average of 140 inches of annual rainfall to the Hoh Valley. This moisture has created one of the lushest rainforests in the world. Start your journey from the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center, which is located about two hours west from Port Angeles. Be sure to stop in at the Forks Visitor Center along the way to explore ocean beaches and Twilight movie sights.
Port Townsend
Take a day trip to Port Townsend—just a scenic drive from Port Angeles. Or, catch the ferry into Port Townsend from Coupville, Washington. This charming Victorian seaport is full of art galleries, waterfront dining, quirky shops, coastal history, and a historic theater. Don’t miss the historic downtown, Fort Worden State Park, or a stroll along the marina.
Cape Flattery
Head west of Port Angeles toward the Pacific Ocean. Cape Flattery is the most northern point in the contiguous United States where the Strait of Juan de Fuca meets the Pacific Ocean. Walk out to Cape Flattery via the trail from the Makah Reservation. An inexpensive trail permit is required which is available in Neah Bay or online. We recommend using one of the beautifully decorated traditional walking sticks available at the trailhead (and donations are gladly accepted).
